We are not anti-medication critics – we are pro-informed choice
Corinna: I am not against medication. I think it has some use use when the emotional pain is so great that we need a little distance. But most of us are against medicating for life, medicating everyone the same, and medications first. I’m pro “selective and judicious medication use.”
If we say “Meds don’t work at all,” that’s a direct contradiction to all the people out there that love their meds. Then they instantly turn off our message. I know that many of those people have confused efficacy for withdrawal symptoms, but to message to the most people, we can’t be scaring people off. Also it’s not effective to deny their personal experience. Remember, that’s exactly what was done to us, and if our story matters, so does theirs even if it’s based on a lie they haven’t learned yet.

Belief Systems, Nuance, and Productive Advocacy Ideas
auf Mad in America, Featured Blogs, February 11, 2016
For those with lived experience, do people believe your recovery story? What restrictions do people put on you when you tell your story? What one-liners have you found to defuse people's concerns so that they can hear you? How do you stay in the advocacy game instead of getting frustrated at being the only one who knows the data? This is my story of disclaimers, advocacy friends, respect for religious beliefs, and sustainable advocacy efforts. http://www.madinamerica.com/2016/02/rec ... sclaimers/
